THE INDISPENSABLE MOVIES
A guide to more than 500 movies worth watching

DATELINE: Prague, Czech Republic; October 1997 -- We've moved to a land where movies go unrated, alcohol flows freely in theater lobbies and you have to pick your seat at the box office. Stay tuned for more tales from the Wild East, Europe, that is.-- The Sturms sturm@terminal.cz

Welcome, film fans, to The Indispensable Movies Home Page. You'll find, conveniently organized and often irreverently discussed, more than 500 remarkable films divided into 26 genres, as well as weekly video reviews. This is journalist and reviewer Dave Sturm's succinct guide to the best of the best (and the worst), movies that make movie-going a passion instead of a pasttime.

The movies

Click on any of the following 26 genres and you'll learn anything worth knowing about that type of movie. Follow how the genre developed (or degenerated) as I cover noteworthy movies, their year of release, directors, and stellar performances by actors, writers, or others. The list is in descending order, from the genre with the largest number of movies to that with the smallest.
